Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a dice-based role-playing experience. A partnership has been formed to develop a tabletop RPG set within the series' apocalyptic landscape. The project was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to begin in April of 2026.

"This endeavor aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the tabletop, providing fans a new way to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," states an announcement.

Launch products are set to feature a starter set, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, figurines, and various deluxe editions.

Exploring The Division's Dystopian World

In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was released in New York City, sending the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups emerge, turning the city into a warzone. To preserve law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of sleeper agents. This is where the players enter the story.

Development on the game has been underway for about several years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to access a wider market, specifically in the United States. Manufacturing is slated to begin right after the fundraiser, with deliveries projected for later in 2026.

A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

An early look at the system reveals it uses 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and strategic style. Agents use abilities to assemble small dice pools, usually from one to five d10s.

  • Instead of adding results together, participants choose a single “result die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then compared against a set challenge number.
  • Achieving a natural 10 grants special effects, such as increased harm or boosted support.

Engagements Emphasize Positioning and Situational Insight

Fights stress positioning and situational awareness, reflecting the video games. Factors like cover, elevation, or line of sight directly influence success chances. This mechanic seems built to favor coordination and smart positioning instead of raw numbers.

A Thematic Wound Mechanic

The way health is tracked introduces a compelling thematic twist. Agents have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage weakens their capabilities by decreasing the size of their dice pool.

  1. At zero health, an agent collapses, but is not unconscious.
  2. They may still move and take limited actions, emulating the "downed" state common to video game shooters.
  3. Any agent in this state must consult a injury chart, potentially gaining lingering conditions like shock or crippling injuries.

A Ready-to-Play Adventure

A free introductory rulebook will be released soon. It includes a pre-made starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. More specifics and the complete product lineup will be unveiled closer to the Kickstarter start date.
